Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home excelled in our short-term care category, with an impressive grade of A- in this category. Our short-term care grades are believed to be more critical for those in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize this facility's nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A- in this area. Inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this area tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.

Nurse Quality
We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of C. Nursing ratings are based largely on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is far below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. In fact, it performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed is long-term care. It received a lowly F in this category, which is a very poor grade. This is obviously a major disappointment. Long-term care grades in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home provided the vaccine to just 90.5 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best score in this category.
