Long-term Care Quality
To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. After looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+. In calculating our nursing scores, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provides an impressive 4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Out of this total, nearly one fourth of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. Lastly, this facility also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any facility the state when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these datapoints as reliable indicators of the caliber of nursing care offered.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home has earned near flawless government inspections in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A in this area. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
The fourth area we analyzed was short-term care, where this nursing home was given an A-. This rounded out a very impressive report card. Not many nursing homes earned an A- or higher in every single category. Our short-term care grades are thought to be most critical for patients needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. This means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. One of this place's strengths is registered nurse hours. This facility offers more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that it fared respectably with 46.5 percent of its patients returning home.
