Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility earned near flawless government inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this area. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also awarded this nursing home a score of A for our long-term care grade. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for resident care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. There are a variety of datapoints included in this grade. Many of these factors relate to nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next category we scored is short-term care, which is this facility's least impressive area. We gave this facility a D in this area. Nevertheless, you should not assess this facility solely on one bad category, as it was awarded many superb grades in other categories. In calculating our short-term care grades, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This grade is more often than not a fair assessment of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. It appears that this nursing home was below average in two of the key staffing areas we assessed. In fact, it provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 3.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
