While this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A+ for that area, which is one of our highest scores. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid nursing homes that had a long list of deficiencies. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a solid grade in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a C. For prospective residents seeking a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. This facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, this facility only received a D for its short-term care rating, which is not one of our better scores. Short-term care grades are important for prospective residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. This includes a vast spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Considering its grade in this category, we were not stunned to discover that this facility was well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The last measure we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 5.3 percent of its residents returning home.
The final area we analyzed is nursing, where this facility was given a rock bottom score in this category as well. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this category, which is definitely a major disappointment. When calculating our nursing ratings, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
