Facility Inspections
While this place's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. We believe that one of the most important factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially focus on the severity of the deficiencies. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home only received a D for its long-term care score, which turns out to be one of its more favorable category scores. Nursing homes that do not fare well in this category often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in some of the areas of routine healthcare services we looked at. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We found that this nursing home administered the vaccine to just 88.850174 percent of its patients, which is several points lower than we expected. To our surprise, this facility was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home ended up receiving a an abysmal grade in our short-term care area. It received a lowly F in this category. In crafting these short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Considering its abysmal rating in this category, we weren't shocked to find this facility offers far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to return home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 5.1 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
Turning to our next area, this facility didn't fare well here either. Due to a bottom of the barrel grade of F in nursing, this is really as terrible as it gets. The nursing score is based on a variety of factors. The most heavily weighted one is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provided only 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. In addition to receiving below average marks for total nursing hours, this facility was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and found this nursing home was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this metric.
