While we did not have many positive things to say about this facility's overall score, it earned a somewhat respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that area with a B-. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. This nursing home was assessed 9 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe. This indicates that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an immediate risk to resident safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

Lastly, our nursing scores also consider quality-based measures, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this place actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses to assist its patients.

The third category we assessed was short-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a solid grade of B-. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. We found that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. It offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. It is still important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.

The next category we rated was long-term care. We gave this facility a grade of B- in that area. Our long-term care scores are meaningful for individuals in need of non-healthcare services such as personal care. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. This nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
