Short-term Care Quality
While we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it an impressive grade of A- for our short-term care rating. This grade is far more impressive than its overall grade, which could have been even worse without this grade. Our short-term care ratings are meaningful for prospective residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional skilled nursing services. This includes a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. We were not able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 5.6 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
Surprisingly, this facility actually received an impressive nursing grade this year as well. We gave it a grade of B in this category. Nursing ratings are based largely on nurse staffing levels. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality
Another unfortunate development was the F this facility received in the area of long-term care. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is more than the average nursing home. Surprisingly, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
Facility Inspections
The last category we looked at is inspections. This nursing home didn't receive favorable inspections in recent years. As a result, we had to give it an F in this category. You should pay close attention to any deficiencies on a facility's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection rating. We suggest you pay close attention to the level of severity of those deficiencies. This facility was hit with 7 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they caused a risk to resident health or safety. Finally, we want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received large government fines recently amounting to more than $100,000. This usually means that a poor track record has been an issue for multiple years.
