Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
Even though we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable short-term care rating this year. We gave it a B- in that category. In the category of short-term care, we strive to assess measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The key is determining what bearing this had on the quality of care. The last item we considered in this category is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In fact, nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an D. There are a host of criteria included in this area. Many of the criteria reflect the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home offered only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This facility fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality
Another issue was the F this facility received in the category of long-term care. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care grades. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
Facility Inspections
In our final category of inspections, this nursing home received a horrible grade. We weight this category more heavily than other categories. For facilities with bad inspection ratings, you should really scrutinize any severe deficiencies found on their recent inspection reports. This nursing home had 7 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they caused a threat to patient health or safety. Lastly, we need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received large government fines recently totaling over $100,000. This generally indicates that a poor performance spanned multiple years.
