Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although this place's overall grade is not a highlight, it received a somewhat respectable score in the category of inspections. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not bad. Our inspection ratings are tied to many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to resident safety. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

We also awarded this facility a grade of C for our nursing rating. In calculating a facility's nursing score, we consider the quantity of hours nurses are caring for residents and the levels of training of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is significantly below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly excelled in some of the quality measures we assessed. It performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the number of hours of care offered.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's next best category is its long-term care grade, where it received a C. In a long-term care setting, the primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 98.139534 percent of its residents, which is more than the average nursing home. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last area we looked at was short-term care. This facility received a C for this category. Short-term care grades are commonly used to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. We found that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. It provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 5.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.
