Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Even though we gave this facility an abysmal overall score, we awarded it a B- for our nursing rating. Our nursing grade assesses the facility's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of licensure of those nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared with most facilities. Finally, despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually a reliable indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place.
Long-term Care Quality
We were also surprised to discover that this nursing home earned a decent long-term care score this year. We gave it a C in this category. For residents in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. One of the factors we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. Thankfully, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. This nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second least favorable category is short-term care, where it received just a D in that category. This is a relatively poor score. In calculating our short-term care scores, we analyze a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This grade is more often than not a meaningful measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. With a score in this range in this category, we were not stunned to learn that this facility was well below average in several staffing areas we focus on. The nursing home provided substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most facilities. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 3.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
Facility Inspections
Turning our last category of inspections, this facility received an F here. Since this information is collected by independent government inspectors, we heavily weight negative feedback in this category. You should pay close attention to any deficiencies on a facility's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection grade. We would pay close attention to the severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home had 9 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility also received 25 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
