One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. For prospective patients looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. Even though we determined this nursing home has an impressive quantity of nursing care provided by aids and other nursing staff, we found its vaccine statistics to be a bit slightly lower than we anticipated. It gave the pneumonia vaccine to just 90 percent of its residents. This is one statistic we would like to see this nursing home bring up. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. With 2 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home is just about middle of the road in this area.

In addition, this facility also received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that area with an A-. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. Our nursing rating includes quite a few factors, however, the main one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides an incredible 4.5 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is far better than what is offered by most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as reliable indicators of the caliber of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

The next category we assessed is this nursing home's worst area. However, even in its worst category we still awarded it a respectable grade of B- in short-term care. With our short-term care grade, we strive to create a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze a nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The last datapoint we considered in this category is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that just 17 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
