Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a first rate facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in the category of nursing, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. When calculating our nursing grades, we look at both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a policy of moving a patient more frequently.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its impressive category scores, this nursing home also excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed as well in this area. Our inspection ratings are based on many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's government inspections. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area tend to have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to an additional strength for this nursing home, we gave them one of our more favorable scores in our short-term care category as well, with a grade of B+. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This score is often a meaningful assessment of the nursing home's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to the next area, this nursing home was given a high-end long-term care rating. We awarded it a grade of B+ in that area, finishing off one of our finer profiles. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in this category it is a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 97.21362 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly is often a dangerous condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
