On top of performing well overall, this nursing home also received a nearly flawless inspection report. Consequently, it earned one of our best grades in that area with an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively insignificant. This facility received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to create an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This nursing home also received an A+ for its short-term care grade. In determining our short-term care grades, we scrutinize a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This rating is typically a solid measure of the facility's rehabilitation. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered substantially more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. It fared as well as just about any facility in the country in this area with 69.5 percent of its residents returning home.

Nurse Quality

This nursing home also received an A+ nursing grade, making it one of the few nursing homes to receive multiple A+ category grades. When determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we consider the quantity of hours nurses are with patients as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This facility provided 4.8 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This was one of the more impressive totals we found. Furthermore, a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. On top of providing impressive levels of care, this facility also fared well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home outpaced the national average.

In the last area, this facility also was awarded a very strong long-term care rating, with a grade of A. This rounded out a very strong report card. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to providing very favorable levels of nurse staffing, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
