Long-term Care Quality
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our long-term care grade. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly can be a life threatening ailment for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this nursing home also performed well in our inspection category, which is based on the facility's inspections. We awarded it an B+ for that category, which is one of our top scores. Our inspection ratings account for several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this area usually have very few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality
The next area we graded is short-term care. This nursing home received an above average short-term care grade, with a grade of B+ in the area. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
The last category we graded is nursing, where this facility received a B+. This rounded out a very strong report card. Very few facilities earned a B+ or higher in in each area we assessed. When determining our nursing ratings, we analyze both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of the nurses. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning patients more often.
