Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of faring well overall, this nursing home earned a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it earned one of our highest scores in that area with an A+. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this facility an A. Our nursing grade includes a variety of datapoints. The most heavily weighted variable is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility Minnesota in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of moving a patient more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also was awarded a very impressive short-term care score. This actually is this facility's third most impressive category score. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. In the area of short-term care, we seek to assess measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last datapoint we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that 5.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In the final area, this nursing home also was awarded a first-rate long-term care score, with a grade of A. This topped off a very strong report card. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. One of the data points we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.38271 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a great way to minimize unnecessary hospitalizations for the elderly population. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
