Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While we were not complementary of this nursing home's overall performance, it actually received an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that category with a B+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of this nursing home's more respectable category scores came in the category of long-term care. This proved to be its second most respectable category. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a B-. Our long-term care ratings are more important for people in need of more conventional assistance related to personal care. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 86.94444 percent of its residents. This is significantly less than the national average. Nevertheless, this facility excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This facility's next best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. Our nursing rating assesses the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of licensure of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This particular nursing home offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This statistic is well below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This place fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we looked at was short-term care. This facility received an abysmal grade of F in that category. In the area of short-term care, we seek to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
