Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this facility really excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively insignificant. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
Additionally, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B+ in our long-term care category. This is one of our more impressive scores. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. After we finished looking at the amount of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 96.78571 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a life threatening illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This facilities third best category is short-term care. We gave it a grade of C in this area. This is basically a slightly below average score in this category. In computing our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This rating is often a fair measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.9 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Nurse Quality
The next category we rated is nursing, was this facility's worst area. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in that area. This really is one of the few weak links of a quality profile. When computing our nursing scores, we factor in both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. In addition to its subpar nursing hour totals, this place also earned suboptimal marks in several of the quality-based measures we considered in determining our nursing ratings. We found that a higher percentage of this facility's residents sustained falls which led to major injury. We believe that many falls could likely be prevented with better nursing care. This metric contributed to this place receiving a terrible nursing score.
