Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of earning a strong overall grade, this facility performed even better in our inspections category which is associated with the nursing home's recent inspection reports. We awarded it a grade of A+ for this category, which is one of our best scores. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home was given a strong short-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our better grades in that category with a grade of B+. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This grade is generally a useful measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this area is the number of patients that returned home from the nursing home. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, this nursing home also received favorable long-term care scores this year. Indeed, we gave it one of our higher scores in that category, with a grade of B. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 88.49316 percent of its residents. This is a bit lower than we expected. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, at least this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Switching gears to the last area, we gave this nursing home a grade of D for our nursing category. This was the facility's weakest category score. Sadly, this grade pulled down the nursing home's overall profile to a certain degree. When calculating a facility's nursing score, we look at the amount of time nurses spend with residents as well as the level of skill of those nurses. This facility averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This facility performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
