Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of receiving a great overall grade, this facility also earned an A+ inspection score. This grade is based on the facility's recent government inspections. An A+ in this area is one of the best complements we can pay to a facility. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also gave this facility a score of A- for our long-term care grade. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to the next category, this facility also received a grade of B+ for its short-term care rating. This is an above average score in this area. Our short-term care grades are considered to be most critical for patients in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional skilled nursing. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. We were not able to track down information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last category we scored was nursing. This nursing home was given a favorable nursing grade this year, with a B-. Although this wasn't quite as elite as some of its other scores, this is still a decent score for that area. Nursing grades are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a relatively low total compared with most facilities. Finally, our nursing ratings also consider some quality-focused metrics. We like to look at the percent of residents who suffered pressure ulcers and major falls. These metrics are indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these issues.
