Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this ended up being a great nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is just about as good as it gets in this very important area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite insignificant. It doesn't look like we were able to find deficiency data for this facility. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This top notch facility also fared very well in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a score of A+. Very few nursing homes performed better in this area. When nursing homes receive this type of score in this category it is a good sign for resident care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 98.46154 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is too frequently a deadly condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its first-rate resume, this facility also received a dominant short-term care grade, with a score of A-. Short-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a vast spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Moving on to the fourth area, this nursing home also excelled in the nursing category. We awarded it a B+ in this area. This rounded out a first-rate report card. There are a host of subcategories included in this category. Most of these factors reflect levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
