Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we were not high on this facility's overall score, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that category with an A-. Inspection grades are tied to pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid facilities with severe deficiencies linked to risks to resident well being. This place was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's second best area is short-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of C. Short-term care grades are generally used to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To have quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's second least favorable score was long-term care, where it received just a D in that category. This is a relatively poor score. Facilities that do not score well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. Candidly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to only 77.88779 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The last category we graded was nursing, in which this facility received a very poor score in this category as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is obviously very concerning. Nursing ratings are mostly tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home offered only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This facility fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
