Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a strong nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in our short-term care category, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. With our short-term care category, we try to craft a valuable gauge for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. This facility excelled at the highest level in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is an excellent sign. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in the nation in this area with 78.5 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
This facility also earned an A+ inspection grade, making it one of the few facilities to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. This score is based on the place's recent government inspections. Inspection scores weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically have few of these severe deficiencies. While this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on our next area, we gave this nursing home a grade of A for its long-term care score. This is a first-rate score. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. One of the criteria we considered after nurse's aid hours is vaccines. It does not appear that this nursing home provided data regarding vaccinations. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
In our last area, we awarded this facility a grade of A+ for our nursing rating. This completed a very impressive profile. Nursing grades are largely tied to the facility's level of nurse staffing. This place provided 4.7 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is among the highest figures in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the more skilled levels of nurses. We are very impressed by these figures. In addition to offering high levels of care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed as well as any facility in the nation in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
