Facility Inspections
This nursing home received a quality overall score as described above, but we especially want to point out its excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave it an A+ in this category. Inspection scores are tied to several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this area typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home truly excelled in the area of long-term care, where it received a grade of A. Few facilities performed more favorably in this area. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 97.297295 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. With 1.82 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home was close to average in this area.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. This wasn't quite on par with some of its other category grades mentioned above. The nursing grade analyzes quite a few subcategories, most of which are based on quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, while this nursing home got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of our quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it did very well in this metric.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed is short-term care. We awarded this facility a D in the area of short-term care, making this the nursing home's weakest area. Our short-term care ratings are based on a facility's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. In this facility's case, it looks like it offers less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. Lastly, we considered the number of patients that were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 33.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
