Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Although we didn't grade this facility favorably overall, we did give it an excellent grade in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A. Our inspection grades weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with too many severe deficiencies flagged. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

One of this facility's more favorable category grades came in the area of short-term care. This wound up being its second most respectable category. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. In computing our short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This score is often a solid assessment of the facility's rehabilitation services. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This proved to be more of a strength for this facility. In fact, we found that it outperformed the majority of facilities with 55.2 percent of its patients returning home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. We analyzed the licensure of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the number of hours those nurses were with patients, in computing our rating in this category. This place provided a meager 2.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. This nursing home also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its low nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and we were disappointed. This place was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this metric. This is a bad sign when you consider that many pressure ulcers could be avoided with better nursing care. This statistic helped pull down this facility's nursing score significantly.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to the final category, this facility did not fare well in this category either. With a rock bottom grade of F in long-term care, this is really as bad as it gets. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care may not provide the type of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes provide. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit worried that this facility provided the vaccine to a relatively low 70.06803 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.91 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best feature in this category.
