Facility Inspections
Although this nursing home's overall score was as bad as it gets, it fared well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that category, which is one of our better scores. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid facilities that had too many deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to create an imminent threat to resident safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We awarded this nursing home just a D for our long-term care grade and that actually wound up as its second best category. Facilities that do not fare well in long-term care typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine personal care we assessed. Once we concluded our assessment of the quantity of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated only 65.036674 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.

Nurse Quality
In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. Our nursing rating is largely tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place fared well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these statistics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we scored was short-term care. This facility was given a bottom of the barrel grade of F in this category. In computing our short-term care ratings, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Given its score in this area, we were not surprised to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the figures we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected to find. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4 percent of its residents returning home.
