Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to faring well overall, this facility also earned a nearly flawless inspection report. Consequently, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A+. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This facility was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Contributing to its top-shelf profile, this nursing home also performed well in our short-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for the area. In the area of short-term care, we seek to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

The next area we looked at is long-term care. Adding to its high-end resume, this facility also excelled in that area. In fact, we awarded it a of A- in that category. When facilities receive this kind of grade in this category it is usually a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. After considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Turning to the last area, this nursing home was awarded a strong nursing grade. We awarded it a B+ in this area, finishing off one of our better profiles. Our nursing grade assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of skill of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of moving patients even once per day.
