Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this place ended up being a quality nursing home is that it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is just about as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection grades are based on datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this category typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This facility was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also strong in the area of long-term care, where it was given a grade of B+. It performed more favorably than most facilities in this area. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this nursing home also was awarded favorable short-term care scores this year. In fact, we gave them one of our stronger grades in that area, with a grade of B+. In calculating our short-term care scores, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to devise a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The next area we analyzed was nursing. We gave this facility one of our higher grades in this area, with a grade of B. While this wasn't as strong as some of this facility's other grades, it is still an excellent grade. When calculating our nursing grades, we look at both staffing levels and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can generally be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
