Facility Inspections
On top of faring well overall, this nursing home also earned nearly flawless government inspections. Consequently, it earned one of our highest grades in that category with an A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite insignificant. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Adding to its top-shelf assessment, this nursing home also was given a superb long-term care grade, with a score of A-. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.58 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home.

Nurse Quality
Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. The nursing rating assesses many subcategories, many of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This place offers 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident daily, of which more than an hour was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly skilled nurses. In determining our nursing scores, we add more weight to hours provided by registered or licensed nurses. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed better than average in this area. This is often a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed is short-term care. We awarded this facility a decent score in this category, with a B-. Even though this isn't as high as some of its other grades, it is still not a major area of concern. Short-term care grades are often used to grade a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to offer highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered substantially more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The final metric we considered in this area is the number of residents that returned home from the facility. We found that just 41.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
