Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of receiving a great overall rating, this facility fared even better in the area of inspections which is based on the nursing home's recent government inspections. We awarded it an A for that area, which is one of our best grades. Inspection scores are tied to datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This means the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

An additional strong feature for this facility is that it was awarded a favorable short-term care score. In fact, this turned out to be its second best category score. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a B+. Short-term care grades are important for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility was given a favorable long-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our better grades in that category with a score of B+. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 99.7389 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is often a life or death condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility does not roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The next category we analyzed is nursing. This facility was given a C for the area. In calculating our nursing ratings, we look at both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This facility provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a somewhat concerning figure which is well below the national average. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is often a reliable indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place.
