Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. We would argue that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially look at the severity of the deficiencies. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Incredibly, we gave this nursing home a C for our short-term care rating, which isn't too bad of a score. In determining our short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to devise a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely impact the quality of care. The final item we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 5.4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Long-term Care Quality
We awarded this facility just a D for our long-term care rating. This is well below average in this category. When facilities receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is typically a bad sign for patient care and it may indicate that the place is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. We were somewhat surprised to discover that this nursing home vaccinated just 85.1752 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best score in this category.
Nurse Quality
The final area we scored was nursing. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this category, which is a poor score. The nursing grade analyzes a handful of subcategories, but the main consideration is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This facility performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these statistics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.
