Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. We would argue that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially look at the severity of the deficiencies. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Incredibly, we gave this nursing home a C for our long-term care rating, which isn't too bad of a score. For prospective residents looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 93.70078 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be a few points lower than we anticipated but still a decent figure. Fortunately, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility ended up receiving a a very poor score in our short-term care area. It was given a lowly F in this area. Our short-term care scores are important for patients looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. With its score in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this nursing home was well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the figures we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected here. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 4.1 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
The final category we looked at was nursing, where this facility was given a very poor grade here as well. We gave it a lowly F for this area, which is definitely somewhat alarming. Our nursing score includes several components, most of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. In addition to rating below average in nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also had poor scores in the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in both of these statistics. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These statistics pulled down this facility's nursing rating quite a bit.
