Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
While we graded this nursing home very poorly overall, it received a somewhat respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of B- in this category. The nursing grade includes several components, most of which are based on nursing hours. This place provides 0 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics. While this place got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of these quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it did well in this area. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning a patient at least once a day.
Short-term Care Quality
Surprisingly, we gave this nursing home a grade of B- for its short-term care grade, which really isn't too bad of a score. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the average facility. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the number of residents that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 6 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home's third highest score was long-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this category, it still fared somewhat poorly. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to resident care. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home administered the vaccine to only 90.28571 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this place was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
Facility Inspections
Turning the final category of inspections, this ended up being this nursing home's weakest link. Inspection ratings are based on a nursing home's recent government inspection reports. We gave this nursing home just a D in this category, which is a very poor grade. One of the most significant factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. We would scrutinize the severity of the deficiencies. This facility was hit with 6 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.
