We weighed the licensure of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses were with patients, in determining our rating in this category. This facility provided just 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared with most nursing homes. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

This facility's third highest category was its short-term care grade, where it was awarded a B-. Short-term care scores are critical for residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. The hope is always that this does not adversely impact the quality of care.
