Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this facility also excelled in our short-term care rating, where it received an A. Short-term care grades are crucial for individuals looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. This includes a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home provided more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. This is what we like to find when assessing a nursing home in this category. Finally, we looked at the number of patients that eventually returned home from this facility. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it performed as well as just about any facility in the nation with 59.1 percent of its patients returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this statistic.
Facility Inspections
Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category usually have very few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. When calculating our nursing scores, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This place provided 4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is an impressive metric which typically corresponds with quality care. Finally, this nursing home also excelled in several quality measures we assessed. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our fourth category, this nursing home also performed admirably in the long-term care category. We gave it an A- in that area. This wrapped up a straight A report card. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is much higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
