Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually received a very good score in the area of inspections. We gave it a B+ for that category, which is one of our better grades. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some are quite insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. In spite of this deficiency, this place still received a relatively positive report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also gave this nursing home a middle of the road grade in the area of long-term care, with a grade of B-. In calculating these long-term care grades, we quantify the facility's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. After considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This facility's next best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. When calculating our nursing grades, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This facility fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Turning to our last category, this facility really did not fare well in this category either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is just about as as uninspiring as it gets. In forming our short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Considering its score in this area, we were not surprised to discover that this place is well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. The last metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 5.3 percent of its residents returning home. This was quite a bit below average.
