Short-term Care Quality
In addition to faring well overall, this facility earned an excellent short-term care rating. We gave it an A in that area. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of residents who returned home from the facility. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive category scores, this facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.

Nurse Quality
Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A-. We assessed the qualifications of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of hours those nurses were with residents, in computing our rating in this area. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we assessed is long-term care. We gave this facility an acceptable grade in that area, with a grade of B-. Although this is not on par with a few of this nursing home's other grades, it is nevertheless not a poor grade. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
