Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a B+ for our short-term care grade. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to judge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to have good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 6.4 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. Nursing scores are mostly based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the category of long-term care, this nursing home received a grade of just D in that category. Facilities that do not fare well in this category typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 92.85714 percent of its patients. This is somewhat less than we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable figure. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best score in this category.
Facility Inspections
Moving on our final category of inspections, this nursing home received a horrible grade. When a facility has this poor of an inspection grade, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to resident safety. This facility had 2 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they created a threat to resident safety or health. Finally, we also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received large government fines recently of over $100,000. This usually means that a nursing home's poor performance has been an issue for more than one year.
