To pair with its favorable overall grade, we awarded this facility an A+ for our inspections rating. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that we were able to find information about this nursing home's deficiencies. We would like to have more data for this facility. Without the information regarding deficiencies, it was difficult to evaluate this nursing home in the inspections category.

Among the reasons we rated this nursing home so favorably is that it received a dominant short-term care score. In fact, short-term care turned out to be its second most impressive category score. In that area, we gave this facility a score of A-. In computing our short-term care ratings, we size up a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This category is often a reliable assessment of a facility's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. This place fared as well as just about any facility in Pennsylvania in this area with 68.6 percent of its patients returning home. With most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.

The third best area we gave this nursing home in any area came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of B-. In computing these long-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. Unfortunately, this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 71.49123 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Unfortunately, this place's hospitalization rate was also below average. Here we found that this place had 2.18 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this figure is somewhat concerning, this number may be skewed for some facilities based on the medical complexity of patients

The next category we scored was nursing. We gave it a C in this area. This is not a bad grade in this area. When determining a nursing home's nursing rating, we look at the number of hours nurses commit to patients and the level of skill of the nurses. This place provides only 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a somewhat alarming figure as it is well below the national average. Lastly, we also considered a few quality-based statistics in this category. Although this place didn't rank highly in terms of nursing hours, it performed much better in some of the quality measures we assessed. For example, in terms of the percentage of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than average. This is generally a good indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided with better nursing care.
