Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
We just couldn't find anything positive to say about this nursing home. It received just a D for short-term care. Tragically, this proved to be its best grade. Short-term care ratings are based in part on the facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a vast spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Considering its grade in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the figures we assessed. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its better grades. Nursing scores are largely associated with the facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.
Does this page answer your questions about El Paso Health Care Center?
Among this facility's alarming category grades was an F for its inspection grade. More often than not, this means we found some red flags on the facility's inspection reports. For places that received this poor of an inspection rating, we would scrutinize any severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This particular facility was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they caused a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at is long-term care. We gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is a rock bottom grade. Nursing homes that do not fare well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in a few of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. Unfortunately, this facility vaccinated a relatively low 77.60252 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
