To go along with its favorable overall grade, we gave this place a grade of A+ for our inspection category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

On the list of its many impressive grades, this facility was given a strong short-term care grade. In fact, it received a grade of A in that category. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This category is typically a meaningful measure of the facility's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

We also would like to emphasize the fact that this facility was given a first-rate grade of A in our long-term care area. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

In the last area, this facility also received a first-rate nursing grade, with a grade of A-. This completed a rare straight A profile. We weighed the skill-level of nurses working for the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses were with patients, in computing our rating in this category. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This nursing home fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented with better nursing care.
