Facility Inspections
While we were fairly low on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a grade of A- for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall grade. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. This place received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This indicates that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
One of this facility's better category scores was in the category of long-term care. This wound up being its second most respectable category. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of C. Long-term care grades are based on a nursing home's volume of nursing services. This means a vast scope of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 84.69388 percent of its residents. This is many points lower than what we were hoping for. Nevertheless, this place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 1.65 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. Our nursing score assesses a handful of factors, most of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided a meager 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This nursing home was above average in two of the major areas we focus on, with good scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we assessed is short-term care. This nursing home received an abysmal grade of F in this category. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to assess a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Not surprisingly based on its score in this area, this nursing home was well below average in one of the two key staffing areas we looked at. It provided far fewer registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 38.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, around half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
