Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it received a somewhat respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that area. Nursing scores are heavily correlated with nurse staffing levels. This facility provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this place actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is often a good indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We were also stunned to learn that this facility earned a reasonably solid long-term care grade in our assessment. We awarded it a grade of C in this category. Long-term care grades are generally used to gauge a facility's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services provided by a skilled nursing facility. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 67.60125 percent of its residents. On a more positive note, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We awarded this facility a grade of just D for our short-term care rating. This is not one of our better scores. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to assess measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Based on its abysmal rating in this category, we were not surprised to discover this nursing home offered far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most facilities. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 5.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

In our final category of inspections, this facility received a horrible grade. For facilities that received this bad of an inspection rating, we recommend scrutinizing any severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This facility was hit with one category G through L deficiency, which are among the more serious categories of deficiencies. This generally indicates that the deficiencies uncovered by inspectors had potential to cause actual harm to patients. Finally, this facility also received 4 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
