Facility Inspections
While we were not complementary of this place's overall performance, it did receive an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that category with a B. Our inspection grades are based on datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid nursing homes that have severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's long-term care rating is one of its more favorable scores. The nursing home received a grade of B- in this category. In our long-term care score, we assess the quantity of services provided by a facility, as well as a few quality measures. This facility's vaccination data weren't as favorable as its nursing hours. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 86.666664 percent of its patients. We'd love to see some improvement in this area next year. Nevertheless, this nursing home also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 1.59 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next best category was short-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. In calculating these short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This proved to be more of a strength for this facility. In fact, we found that it outperformed the majority of facilities in the country in this area with 53.7 percent of its residents returning home. This is a higher rate than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the last area, this facility received a grade of C in nursing, which we consider to be an acceptable rating. When calculating our nursing ratings, we weigh both nursing hours and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home provides an impressive 4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This nursing home was above average in many of the major areas we focus on, with good scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These data points are sometimes accurate indicators of the quality of nursing care available.
