Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility earned an elite short-term care grade. In fact, we gave this facility an A in this area, which really helped its overall score. In determining our short-term care scores, we scrutinize the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This category is more often than not a meaningful measure of the facility's rehabilitation. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this facility submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The last metric we assessed in this category is the number of patients that returned home from the nursing home. We found that 6.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. Nursing proved to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this facility an B+. The nursing score includes several subcategories, however, the paramount one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

This facility earned a solid inspection report this year as well, with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it earned one of our better grades in that category with a score of B-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. This nursing home received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to patient health or safety. A couple relatively minor dings are not something to panic about.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we analyzed was long-term care. It received an abysmal F for this area, which is a rock bottom grade. This is clearly a major disappointment. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. We were optimistic to learn that this nursing home vaccinates 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
