Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also didn't grade out terribly in the area of long-term care. Indeed, we gave it a C in that area, which is among its more respectable scores. Long-term care grades are based on a nursing home's amount of care. This includes a vast spectrum of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine medical services. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to a relatively low 70.20548 percent of its residents. Nevertheless, this nursing home keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.04 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility received a decent nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. Our nursing rating focuses on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This facility provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, nursing grades also factor in quality-based measures, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this place performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a good indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses to assist its residents.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we looked at is short-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's least impressive category. We awarded this nursing home a D in this area. With our short-term care score, we strive to forge a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Not surprisingly, we discovered that this nursing home offers substantially less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the typical facility. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
