Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a grade of A- for our inspections rating. This score is significantly more impressive than the nursing home's overall score. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid places with too many deficiencies flagged. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of this nursing home's better category scores was in the area of short-term care. This turned out to be its second most favorable category. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of B-. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to formulate a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. We found that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. In fact, it offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is important to determine whether this is adversely impacting the quality of care. The final item we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 6.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. Nursing grades are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home offered only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these datapoints to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we analyzed is long-term care. This nursing home was given a rock bottom grade of F in this category. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is typically a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the nursing home is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. After considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were somewhat surprised to discover that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 89.89899 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best score in this category.
