Short-term Care Quality
While this facility's overall grade was not a highlight, it received a decent grade in our short-term care category. We gave it a B- for that category. This bailed out its overall score to a degree. Our short-term care ratings are important for prospective residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The tricky part is determining what effect this had on quality of care. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
We actually gave this facility a very solid score in the area of inspections as well. In fact, we gave it a grade of B- in this category. Inspection ratings are based on datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to resident safety. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Does this page answer your questions about Cumberland Pointe Care Center?
We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of B-. In computing our nursing scores, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a low total compared to most other nursing homes. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it scored well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we scored is long-term care. We gave it an F for this area, which is an abysmal score. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means the nursing home didn't perform well in our measures relating to resident care. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 93.805305 percent of its residents. This is somewhat lower than we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable figure. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
