Facility Inspections
Although this nursing home's overall score was terrible, it actually fared pretty well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that category, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection ratings are based on datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these reports. Most importantly, you should avoid facilities with severe deficiencies linked to risks to resident well being. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Not having any deficiencies is this facility's best achievement.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of D. The nursing rating is based on several subcategories, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This place averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This number is well below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This facility fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility's next highest score is long-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this area, it still performed relatively poorly. If you are seeking services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care ratings. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we scored was short-term care. This nursing home received a bottom of the barrel grade of F in that category. In determining these short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Based on its grade in this area, we were not surprised to discover that this nursing home was well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. Frankly, this was about what we expected here. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
