Facility Inspections
On top of being a great nursing home overall, it also earned A+ inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this area typically have very few severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Among this facility's other achievements is its high-end long-term care grade. We gave them one of our better grades in that area, with a grade of A-. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. One of the factors we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 99.44444 percent of its patients. This is a reliable method to minimize unnecessary hospitalizations for the nursing home population. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility was awarded an impressive short-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our better scores in that area with a score of B+. Our short-term care ratings are based on a facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a vast range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. We weren't able to locate registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. The final item we assessed in this area is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
The last area we graded is nursing, which ended up being this nursing home's least impressive area. We gave this nursing home a D in this category. However, we would not assess this nursing home based solely on one weak category, as it was awarded many impressive scores in other categories. Nursing ratings are heavily correlated with quantity of nursing care available. This nursing home averaged a meager 0.5 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This place performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
