Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies an imminent threat to resident health or safety. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.

This facility also didn't grade out poorly in the category of long-term care. Indeed, we gave it a grade of B- in that area, which ended up being another one of its better grades. In determining our long-term care scores, we analyze the personal care received by the nursing home's residents. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home provided the vaccine to only 72.17235 percent of its patients. The last datapoint we assessed was its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this facility had 1.9 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is also slightly below the national average.

Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its nursing grade. Nursing ratings are primarily based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 2.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. In addition to receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this nursing home was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and found that this facility was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this statistic. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic dragged down this facility's nursing score significantly.

The next area we scored is short-term care. We gave it a lowly F in this category, which is a poor score. Our short-term care grades are probably most meaningful for patients needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. This means not just nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 12.6 percent of its residents returning home.
