Facility Inspections
Although we didn't give this nursing home a good overall score, we did give it a strong grade in the category of inspections, where it earned a grade of B+. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid nursing homes with a list of deficiencies flagged. This facility was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. The nursing rating weighs several factors, many of which are tied to nursing hours. This nursing home provides an impressive 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these subcategories. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this statistic. This is generally a reliable indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving residents more frequently.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a decent score in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. In the category of short-term care, we strive to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The last metric we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. It was above average in this area with 52.4 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the final area, we awarded this nursing home a D for the area of long-term care. This was the nursing home's weakest category score. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home vaccinated 98.94737 percent of its patients, which is a very solid percentage. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.37 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
