Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this facility well overall, we would like to point out its decent inspection reports in recent years. We gave it a relatively respectable grade of B- in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some can be relatively minor. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This means the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
The next best category we gave this facility in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of B-. With our short-term care rating, we try to craft a fair barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at a facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we assessed. In fact, it offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. It is important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. The last measure we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 5.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.

Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this nursing home's next highest category is long-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this category, it still fared somewhat poorly. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable statistic. Surprisingly, this place also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to our last area, we gave this nursing home a D for the area of nursing. This was the facility's least impressive category rating. The nursing score consists of quite a few factors, however, the most important consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. With a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day, this place's nurse staffing levels were well below average. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these statistics pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating quite a bit.
