Registered Staff Hours
The main reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection score. Its inspection grade was far superior to its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave this facility an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
We also wanted to point out that this facility earned an B in the category of nursing. Our nursing grade is primarily based on a nursing home's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a system of moving patients even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality
The next category we graded was short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a decent grade of C. In our short-term care category, we seek to craft a sound gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess a nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the average facility. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to our last area, this facility didn't fare well. With an abysmal grade of F in long-term care, this was its weakest area. In a long-term care setting, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 96.11651 percent of its residents, which is better than most nursing homes. To our surprise, this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
