Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The main reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection score. Its inspection grade was far superior to its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave this facility an A+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility also received an impressive grade in our long-term care category. We gave this facility an above average grade of B+ in this category. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 96.296295 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is more than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing score. In fact, we gave this facility an impressive grade of D. We analyzed the skill-level of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses were with patients, in computing our score in this area. This place provided a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is not a very impressive figure. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This facility fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to the fourth category, this facility really didn't fare very well. With a very poor grade of F in short-term care, this was this facility's worst area. In our short-term care assessment, we seek to craft a sound barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at a facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. It looks like this nursing home was subpar in several staffing areas we assessed. In fact, it provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. Finally, we considered the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
